I had some other Seagate externals in the past year die on me within the 1st month but they sent out a replacement to me pretty quickly so that was ok. Pros: Cheap Cons: Poor ventilation Other Thoughts: I do not have this drive specifically, but have used many Seagate drives in their USB housings and all have failed early, many within a year. If you look at the SMART data, all were getting red-lighted for heat and ventilation issues. There was nothing I could do as they are sealed and the ventilation is non-existent. I've been brought back by the cheap prices, but all have failed early than reasonable, making me scramble to try and recover the data.
Note that these have been used very rarely as backup drives only, so many have just hours on them, but you spin them back up and there's issues with connectivity and eventual failure. Solution - find a USB drive/enclosure with adequate ventilation. I just purchased a WD solution with fantastic ventilation, so I'm hoping my childs pictures and videos are safe here. I've always had issues with Seagate, less so with WD, both internal and external, but I attribute the external issues to poor ventilation and cooling. Proceed with caution.
